Chulalongkorn University Technology Center (UTC) is a platform for impactful research and innovation for deep technologies based on transformative engineering and scientific discoveries.
UTC was established to address the "valley of death" – the gap between translating university research and IP to working applications with commercial value.
We work closely with university faculty, students, industry, and government to identify the most promising deep tech research areas for development and commercialization to solve the nation's biggest challenges.

OUR PLATFORM
We provide the technical and business tools necessary to accelerate technologies from lab to market by providing trifecta expertise in multidisciplinary research and development, connections to and funding from private-public partnerships, and a seat at the table to government regulations and policy shaping.
TECHNOLOGY READINESS LEVEL
We use technology readiness levels (TRL) to assess the stage of technology maturity, from TRL 1 where research has been initiated, to TRL 9 where the technology has been commercialized and has been on the market for some time.
From "prototype to pilot", we focus on advancing early-to-mid-stage technologies that are at TRL levels 4-6.
Technologies at this level of readiness generally require 3 - 10+ years development time, and $10 - $100M+ in funding.
Without a combination of university, industry, and government support, most research efforts fail at this stage
due to its resource-intensive nature.

We currently focus on deeptech research advancement in the following verticals: Medtech and AI/Data Science.
MEDTECH
Thailand's medical device market is set to reach $100B by 2020, with currently 63% of medical devices being imported. And as Asia's third most rapidly aging population, with 1 out of 4 of the population being over 60 years old by 2030, there is increasing demand for local medtech innovation development and commercialization. Our resources include: Chulalongkorn Hospital and medical school, Clinical Research Center (CUCRC), Chulalongkorn Medical Innovation Center (CMIC), Animal Laboratory Center, and more. |
AI / DATA SCIENCE
"Thailand 4.0" is a new model of economic growth geared towards the creation of an innovation-lead value-based economy. In this initiative, one of the 5 main sectors for growth is in Digital Technologies, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence & Embedded Technology. Our core areas of research includes Natural Language Processing (NLP) for Thai Language, Image processing, and Reinforcement learning. |
